Fifty years ago, 1943. Speech (copy) given on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Ladies Literary Society of Montgomery (Mich.) on March 16, 1943. The speech describes life in the 1890s in the United States. An undated letter notes that the speech was donated to the Clarke Historical Library, via John Cumming, by Floyd Dain.

Dain was born Nov. 20, 1910. He earned an A.B. and a M.A., both in history and both from Wayne State University (WSU). During World War II he served as a communications officer in the U.S. Navy. Dain taught in Detroit Public Schools for 29 years and as a special instructor at WSU for 15 years. Dain was hired as an administrative assistant at Clarke Historical Library at Central Michigan University (CMU) in 1966. Cumming, born in Mass. in 1915, served as Director of the Clarke Historical Library at CMU, 1961-1982. He was an early member and president of the Michigan Archival Association. He earned degrees from Eastern Michigan University and attended Wayne State University and Michigan State University.
